The St. Joe last July. This is what we have to look forward to0! That's the upper St. Joe last July. Warm weather is almost here, but not today. As I sit in the shop to right this it is raining again. Yesterday was a blue bird day in the upper 50's to low 60's. Summer is almost here! did get out on SF of the CDA and the NF of the CDA earlier this week. So here is the report.
North Fork of the CDA is currently at 7,400 CFS as of this morning. This up from 5,500 on Tuesday, so we continue the roller coaster with the flows. The river temp at the confluence of the SF and NF was 40 degrees as it was at mile 17. That is still cold and the fish are still a little sluggish. The lower river is fishing much better than the upper above Prichard. Late winter still has a slight grip on the upper portion above mile 30. March Browns and Skawala's are out mid day and Gray Drakes are rumored to start soon. Weekend weather should be very nice! Screw doing yard work, Go Fishing! Flies to try.. Trina's Carnage Skawala Norm Wood's Special - Had good success with this one King's CDC Golden Stone - Not a true Skawala but it worked well Hilda's Spring Creek Mahogany #14 Galloup's Tilt Wing Rust #14 Kicking Klink Mahogany #12 Special Klink Duo #12 - This fly by Fulling Mill and has an additional eye on the bend of the hook for a dropper set up. Pat's Stone Black Double B Stone Galloup War Bird Kyles Golden Stone Brillon's Lucent Jig - If you have not tried a jig you should San Juan Worm St. Joe Currently at 7,000 and like the NF CDA it is also on a slight roller coaster. I have not fished it, but reports and hatches are similar to the report above. I think if you have a box of flies with what is listed above you'll be all set.
